Newport Beach Breast Augmentation

Breast enhancement is a much sought after procedure in Orange County, CA, because women like to feel good about their body image. Whether your breasts have always been small in proportion to the rest of your body, or they have changed in size or shape after pregnancy or weight fluctuation, breast augmentation can help you feel more confident and comfortable with your appearance.

During you consultation, Dr. Solmer will want to know what result are you seeking, and especially how large would you like to be? The surgery is performed as an outpatient, and takes about 2 hours.

Breast Implants

You will need to decide whether you would prefer saline or silicone implants. A saline implant has a silicone shell or envelope, and is filled with saline solution. A silicone implant is filled with silicone gel. Modern silicone implants use a cohesive type of gel. A silicone implant has a more natural squishiness and feel to it than a saline implant, although in a patient with some natural breast tissue this difference may not be obvious.

About Breast Augmentation

For women with disproportionately small breasts, breast augmentation can provide breast fullness and enhance self confidence. It can also correct loss of breast volume that may have occurred following childbirth or weight fluctuations. In addition, breast implants can improve breast asymmetry, and provide increased fullness and projection to the breasts.

The exact type and size of breast implants selected for your surgery depend on your personal preferences, and on your pre-existing anatomy, including chest width, soft tissue thickness, and the shape and position of your natural breasts. Saline breast implants are FDA approved for augmentation in women age 18 and over, and silicone implants are approved for augmentation for women age 22 and over. Silicone implants may be used at any age if there are primarily reconstructive indications.

There is also a choice of the approach to the surgery, or the incision used to insert the implants. The common approaches utilized by Dr. Solmer are around the lower border of the nipple, in the lower breast fold, and in the axilla or armpit.

The surgery is done with anesthesia for your comfort, normally general anesthesia, though in some cases local anesthesia with sedation can be used.

You will need some preoperative tests to prepare for your surgery and someone will need to drive you home and stay with you for at least the first night after surgery. Dr. Solmer will prescribe pain medication and an antibiotic to take when you go home. Immediately following the surgery while you are still in the operating room you will be placed in a bra and possibly an ace wrap. You will be seen in the office in a few days and at about one week after surgery, and at intervals thereafter.

Your new appearance will be immediately apparent, and you may begin shopping for your new wardrobe within about one week after surgery. Exciting!
